The theme is \u2018The Book Remembers\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, 2nd April\u00a0is\u00a0the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen is celebrated worldwide as International Children\u2019s Book Day.\u00a0 There are a myriad of ways to do this in schools, libraries and homes.\u00a0 Some suggestions include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 reading and promoting stories by HC Andersen<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 introducing folk tales from around the world<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 invite a local storyteller to tell HC Andersen stories and\/or folktales from overseas<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 inviting parents from other cultures to share their childhood favourites and folk tales<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 suggesting your own book club read an overseas children\u2019s book<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 encouraging children to write a story about a child from another culture<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 start a pen pal club with children from abroad<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 encourage each class to create a diaorama featuring a folk-tale or story from elsewhere<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 explore flags, food, clothing, housing and stories from other cultures<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0invite fellow staff members to have a lunch or gathering where they speak for about a minute or so about their favourite children\u2019s book<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and light a candle for world peace.<\/p>\n<p>Posted on\u00a0March 4, 2011\u00a0by ibbyaustralia<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I think it is a wonderful opportunity to read any children\u2019s books in class. Unit 8 in the Grade 5 book is called ALL ABOUT STORIES and the Activity book has a piece on Hans Christian Andersen.\u00a0 Books by various children\u2019s authors are mentioned \u2026.Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl, Eugene Trivizas.
